Louise was born on July 23, 1928 to the late Jack and Maggie Patterson. She graduated from Berryhill High School in 1945 and on May 22, 1945 she married Sidney B. Lands, Jr.
After graduation, Louise worked for Southern Bell. She later became the secretary in the purchasing department for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. When she retired she was the Maintenance Department purchasing agent.
Louise attended Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. She later attended St. Matthew's United Church of Christ. Here she was the church treasurer and a Sunday school teacher.
Considering their modest income, Louise and her husband Sid always found ways to assure their sons and daughters experienced a wide range of activities and entertainment. As a family they frequently attended professional sports, auto races, music concerts, the circus, county and state fairs, fishing trips to the beach and anything else that was popular when the children were young. They encouraged and supported their sons and daughter participation in high school band, high school sports, scholastic competitions, and the Soap Box Derby.
As the children became adults and Louise began to experience some health problems, she continued to be involved with her sons and daughters individual hobbies and interests. She shared an avid interest in watching football, basketball, golf and auto races on TV with her two youngest sons, and watching vintage and historic auto races on TV with her eldest son. She shared common interests and hobbies with her daughter. They worked together with needlepoint and cross stitch, and in later years Lori became the curator of all the family pictures and inventory of Louise's Barbie Doll Collection which was a source of comfort for Louise.
Louise also enjoyed music. Some of her favorite artist were Neal Diamond, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Susan Boyle, and Scotty McCreary. Her favorite movie was Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and favorite TV shows included Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, The Weakest Link and Judge Judy.
Louise was an accomplished writer and she passed that ability on to her children, who don't hesitate to credit her whenever they receive compliments on their writing skills. Between October and December of 2000 she contributed a series of articles to the Neighbors section of the Charlotte Observer. These articles were her recollection of growing up in the Dixie community of Southwest Mecklenburg County. When these articles were published she received many phone calls from former classmates from Berryhill high school and many of them became reacquainted after 55 years. From that point on for the next few years a group of them met monthly for lunch at a local Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Louise is survived by her children, Ed Lands of Charlotte, NC, Dan (Deborah) Lands of Danville, VA, Gary Lands of Mint Hill, NC and Lori (Jeff) Nash of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Katie Lands of Youngsville, NC, Jamie Lands of Mint Hill, NC, and Casey Nash of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Charlee Ward of Kings Mountain, NC and Logan Luther of Charlotte, NC; sister, Martha (Leighton) Brown of Charlotte, NC; and nieces and nephews, Anita and Marc McQuillen, Gerald Brown, Sandra Hovis, John, Alan, Kenneth Hawfield, and Kimberly Simmons.
