Lou Holmes Mouchet, age 88, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022. One of seven children, she was born on September 23, 1934 in Clover, SC to the late Walter Edward Holmes and Martha Maxwell Holmes.
Lou lived in Clover with her family until she was around 10 years old, at which time the family relocated to Charlotte. She attended Central High School and graduated with the class of 1952, and attended Mars Hill University, where she attended for two years.
Following her formal education, on of her very first jobs was selling hosiery at a shoe store. After some time, she began working part time at a local First Citizens Bank while her children were young, and she remained with the bank for 10 years. Later, Lou worked as an Account Manager for the City of Charlotte Water Department until her retirement in the early 2000s.
Lou had many hobbies throughout her life: she enjoyed playing bridge in her younger days, and she had many wonderful memories of shag dancing at beach parties, bowling, reading, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Being the only Duke fan in her house, Lou had a storied rivalry with her Carolina-loving husband and kids, which famously led to her watching the games in a separate room. As a family, they loved spending their family vacations out on the water, either on their houseboat or on their pontoon boat.
Lou was also a bit of a prankster, most notably during Christmas time. She was notorious for creating scavenger hunts or other obstacles that stood between someone and their gift.
Lou was a vast well of knowledge and smart as a tack, and she always had answers and guidance for her kids when they called. She could also be a little bit sassy, and matter of fact, and was well-known for her expressive face. Passionate and bold – she was the kind of person you never forget. Lou was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Those left to honor Lou’s memory include her children, Maurice “Maury” Mouchet and Ellen Mouchet Benton (Randy); her grandchildren, Greg Mouchet (Michelle), Michael Mouchet (Meghan), Will Mouchet (Sarah), Jacob Mouchet (Amanda), Garrett Benton (Janet), Guy Benton (Danielle), and Angel Benton; her great-grandchildren, Quinten, Miles, Margot, Maclin, Murphy, Wyatt, Maylie, Maximus, Gabriel, Aleigha, Tristyn and one on the way; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Martha Holmes; her husband of over 40 years, Bill Mouchet; her siblings, Max Holmes, Garth Holmes, Joe Holmes, Maurice Holmes, Lowery Holmes, and Carol Holmes Grubbs; her granddaughter, Jennifer Lauren Benton and great-granddaughter, Guinevere Mouchet.
Graveside Service TBA. Donations may be made in Lou’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or to a charity of your choice.
