Loretta was born in July of 1929 in Chattahoochee, Florida to Robert Munroe Freeman and Wilma Mae Whiddon Freeman. She graduated from Charlotte's Tech High School in 1947 and attended Queens College. Loretta married her high school sweetheart, Curtis H. Kennington in 1950. They were blessed with three daughters and lived a long happily married life together of 66 years until Curt's death in 2016.
Loretta will always be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes and southern charm, though she did come by her nickname "Fireball" honestly for her spunk! She was a loving mother to her three girls, a fabulous cook and homemaker (her sweet potato souffle and coconut cake unmatched!) Loretta enjoyed many activities through the years including flight lessons, summers at Cherry Grove Beach, square dancing, golfing, and being a voracious bridge player!
Loretta and Curt had a love for traveling throughout the world, visiting Asia, Europe, Australia, N. Africa, and both South and North America. They accumulated many lifelong friends on their journeys, as well as, their dearest friends in their neighborhood (the KenniQuiggs). Curt's duties with Independent Cash Register Dealers Association (now RSPA) led them on many adventures. Loretta's love of entertaining and socializing gave her the perfect opportunity to assist Curt in his duties as he coordinated national and international association conventions.
Loretta and Curt were members of Belmont Park United Methodist Church and charter members of University City UMC. Loretta and Curt became active members of Matthews United Methodist Church after a move to the area.
Loretta is survived by her three daughters, Sherri Fagan (Bob), Kathy Davis (Russell), and Kristi Hall (Brian); her grandchildren, Lindsay Schalles (Ryan), Erin Hoffarth (Will), Brianne Carnahan (Travis), Hayley Twiss (Tyler), Logan Davis, Nicholas Hall, and Nathan Hall; her great-grandchildren, Kennington "Kenna" Schalles, Eli Hoffarth, Kullen Schalles, Briggs Hoffarth, and Brayden Twiss; her only sister, Patricia Cohan; and many other loving extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Matthews United Methodist Church, 801 S Trade Street, Matthews, North Carolina. A visitation will follow the service.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Wanda at Visiting Angels for her steadfast duties to mother over the last several years; Jean, Gillian, Jennifer, and Tamika of Matthews Glen, as well as, many others who have cared and supported our mother on her journey.
