His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road, followed by a celebration of life service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Rex Bornman will officiate.
Mr. Ward was born in Spruce Pine, NC on May 19, 1935 to the late Verda Lee Ward Lusk and Fate Ward, both of Spruce Pine. He was a graduate of Crossnore School Systems in Crossnore, NC, and Berea College in Berea, KY. Mr. Ward worked for Pic ‘N Pay Stores for 25 years, before becoming a NC Licensed Home Inspector for 22 years, owning L-H-C-I-S Inspections. He loved watching movies, fishing and his dogs, and dearly loved and cherished his family. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Ward enjoyed traveling to the mountains and the beaches with his family. Along with his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Cason, and his brother, Ralph Ward.
Lee Roy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara “Polly” Ward; his son, Barry Lee Ward; his daughter, Susan Viverette and her husband, Jody, Sr.; and his grandson, Jody Viverette, Jr., all of Monroe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
