Mrs. Lee Lai Ming Jung, born in Toishan, China, left us on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 95. Lee was a woman of exceptional strength, wisdom, and warmth, and she touched the lives of many through her remarkable journey.
Lee was born in a small poor village in China in 1928. She met the love of her life, Gam “Bob” Jung and they married in 1948 in GuangZhou, China until his passing in 2006. In the year 1949, the couple moved to Hong Kong then soon after Mr. Jung moved to Charlotte, NC. Lee's life took a profound turn when she immigrated to the United States in 1954 with her daughter and her late husband, Bob.
Lee had an acute business sense and had an entrepreneurial mindset. She had a knack for real estate, where her keen instincts and unwavering work ethic led to remarkable success. Additionally, she had great success in owning her businesses, which included restaurants and dry cleaners. Together with her husband, they started Jung Brothers Cleaners on E. Blvd and Park Rd and The House of Jung on Montford, The Mandala on Stonewall, and Perfection Dry Cleaners on 4th St. and Park Rd.
Lee was passionate about cooking and her kitchen was a place of love, where she delighted family and friends with her delicious Chinese dishes. Her family's fondest memories were around the dinner table where she prepared dishes such as chicken wings, steamed fish, stir-fried long beans, shrimp dumplings, and winter melon soup.
In her free time, she loved tending to her garden. Her garden was full of various vegetables, many of which were Chinese vegetables that could not be found in local grocery stores. She had a green thumb and enjoyed sharing her crops with her friends.
Lee was predeceased by her husband, Bob Jung, and is survived by her five children: Sue, Clyde, Robert, Parks, and David. Her children will carry forward her legacy of strength and resilience. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom her wisdom and kindness will forever inspire. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2023 in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-12:00 pm.
