He was born May 24, 1942, in Mooresville, NC, the son of late Audrey Fisher Smith and Howard Smith.
He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1960. He married Barbara Efird on June 22, 1968, in Charlotte, NC.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in the 1960s. After his Honorable discharge, he was employed by Duke Energy as an Substation Lineman for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Travis Thorndike of Swansea, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Brenda Smith of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren and Tyler of Swansea, SC; Jonah, Josh and Avery of Kansas City, MO. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Ann Rowley
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, January 15, 2022, McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
