After graduating from East High School, he joined the Air Force and served as an Aircraft Electrician at Pope AFB.
Larry was a gifted musician and began playing the guitar and banjo at an early age. He played with his brother Nelson in several bands throughout Jr. High and High School, most memorable The Tydes of Tyme. After being honorably discharged from the Air force, Larry and Nelson formed the Plum Hollow Band of Charlotte NC and spent the next many years traveling and playing from HI to NC and FL to NY and almost every state in between. Although Larry had jobs over the years working for Mecklenburg County and contracting to the City of Charlotte, his true passion was always music. His talent for playing the banjo was renowned and he wrote and sang many songs on several cd’s and records.
Larry is predeceased by his father, William Reid Baucom, and is survived by his mother Mary Inez Baucom, brother and best friend-Nelson R. Baucom and sister-in law Barby Baucom.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, and the family would like to thank the caring staff for their kindness and compassion during this time. We would also like to thank the Veteran’s Hospital Hospice Staff in Salisbury NC for their care and devotion during Larry’s final hours.
The funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, May 22 in the chapel at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Services, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
