Kirby Dean Dellinger

Kirby, born on July 6, 1942 in Cherryville, NC, was the sixth child of the late Yates Webb Dellinger and Maude Upton Dellinger. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Yates Webb Dellinger Jr., Sue Lawing, Fran Dellinger, Charles Dellinger and Hilda Lutz. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School, where he was an avid basketball and baseball player. Kirby served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He spent most of his enlistment as a radio operator based in Scotland, where he developed a lifelong love of golf. Kirby met and fell in love with his wife, Caryl Rehm, upon his return to the States. They were married on April 18, 1970. Shortly thereafter they began a family while he earned his accounting degree from UNC-Charlotte.

Kirby worked as a treasurer in the accounting departments of several companies before opening his own CPA practice in the late 1980s. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Thomas and husband Tracy of Mint Hill, NC; sons, Brad Dellinger and wife Audra of Charlotte, NC, Todd Dellinger and wife Jennifer of Greenville, NC, Michael Dellinger and wife Ali of Charlotte, NC; loving grandchildren CJ and Cammie Thomas of Mint Hill, NC, Harrison, Vivian, Josephine and Miles Dellinger of Charlotte, NC. Kirby also leaves behind loving siblings of his wife, their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides.

After the passing of Caryl, Kirby found solace in the game of golf with his friends from Pine Lake Country Club and enjoyed the annual Billy Bob golf trip. He also joined the Mint Hill Lions Club. Kirby was a devoted husband, protective father, and faithful friend. His family is comforted knowing he and his bride are now reunited.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church 11501 Bain School Rd, Mint Hill, NC. The family will greet friends from 12:00-2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park immediately following the service.
