Mrs. Weisner of Charlotte, NC died peacefully on June 11, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital's Harris Hospice. Born on March 12, 1917 in Huntersville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Dr. William W. Craven and Amanda Smith Craven.
She was a graduate of Queens University and a member of Providence United Methodist Church. She worked as a teacher in Norwood before marrying in July of 1949.
Mrs. Weisner was preceded in death by her husband William W. Weisner, her son William "Gill" Weisner, her twin brother Kiffin R. Craven of Grenada MS, and her sister, Jean C. Knox of Statesville, NC.
She is survived by her sister Barbara C. Atkinson of Charlotte and her nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Weisner was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. She was an avid reader, was passionate on social issues and politics and found great joy in the North Carolina mountains. She was devoted to her family and proud of its history. Later in life, Mrs. Weisner's volunteer work included teaching adults how to read and working as a "sitter" with the elderly. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to find joy in so many circumstances.
The family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Hospice, and The Summit at South Park for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in the Chapel of Providence United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Dr. William Jeffries officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park will be private.
