

Born in Dunn, NC on June 17, 1930, he was a son of the late William Isaac Jernigan and Nettie Mae Strickland Jernigan. Rev. Jernigan graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1954 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He joined the VA Administration in 1960 as a Chaplain and retired in 1997. Rev. Jernigan also worked as a Chaplain at the N.C. State Nursing Home from 1997 to 2012 and was the visitation minister at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 12th at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with Rev. Dr. Gerry Davis, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Committal of cremains will be private.
Rev. Jernigan is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Ruth Walton Jernigan; a daughter, Carol W. Jernigan; a granddaughter, Kayla B. Jernigan; a grandson, Brandon M. Jernigan; a sister, Frances Woodard and two nieces, Janet Mitcheltree and Debbie Woodard.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Jernigan was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Mark Jernigan.
