Juanita Searcy "Nita" Lowery, 81, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away October 24, 2017. She was born October 10, 1936, in Lake Lure, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Eva Burgess and Willard Searcy.
Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lowery, her brother, Hubert Searcy, and sisters, Mildred Williamson, Frances Vetter and Rachel Nitchman. She is survived by her sister, Hazel Harden and her brother, Emery Searcy.
Nita is also survived by her son, Jeff Lowery (Joy); daughters, Barbara Simpson (Eric) and Patti Freeman (Eric); eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren (with one on the way), and four adopted children.
Nita was a graduate of Lake Lure High School and attended Blanton Business College in Asheville, North Carolina, working for many years in the accounting field. She enjoyed helping others, especially as an EMT with the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Nita was the first female EMT to join the department. She and her husband, Bob, volunteered with the American Heart Association for several years to teach CPR and First Aid. They both helped out with the North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief effort.
Nita joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church in 1986, where she served on several committees and was a member of the Unity Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Post Office Box 23065, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227-0272, or to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, North Carolina 28110.
