Joseph Anthony Stefan, Jr. died peacefully at home on Friday, May 30, 2014. Born in Doylestown, Ohio on May 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Joseph Anthony Stefan, Sr. and Elizabeth Konich Stefan. Joe grew up in Akron, Ohio and lived in Florida, Texas, and California before settling in Charlotte. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in the U.S. Air Force and received his BBA from the University of Texas at Arlington.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marcia Ainsworth Stefan and children: Annette Louise Stefan of Charlotte, and Scott Edward Stefan and his wife Debbie Bettencourt of Santa Barbara, CA; granddaughters: Erin McNeely and Quinn Stefan; and great-grandson, Noah Anthony McNeely (his Buddy). He is also survived by his sisters, Joan Mansour of St. Mary’s, GA, and Jeannette Scott and her husband, Gary, of Port St. Lucie, FL, and nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by special lifelong friends, Fred and Peg Lombardi and Gerry and Pat Donnelly of Akron, who spent a special day with him in April. The family extends special thanks to Mike, Sam, Tracy, and Ed at Express Air Freight, who gave him a goal and a sense of accomplishment each week. And much appreciation goes to the awesome pharmacy folks at Harris Teeter Cotswold who define what Service Excellence means.
On Monday, June 2nd, there will be a short Prayer Service at 6 pm followed by Visitation until 8 pm at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 3rd at 11 am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road. The family invites you to join them in the Ministry Center for a light lunch after Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
