John grew up as a Boy Scout and attended Cherryville High School, where he graduated with the class of 1969 as an Eagle Scout. After high school, he went on to attend Gaston College.
He worked honorably as a city police officer for the Cherryville Police Department, which later led to him monitoring one of the NC Weigh Stations. John eventually began working for Freightliner in Mt. Holly, NC, where he retired from after 20+ years of dedicated employment.
John was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cherryville, NC. In his free time, he enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping, and he was an avid gun collector. He was also a massive NASCAR fan and could always be found watching the race, whether on TV or in person.
