He was a son of George A. and Marion MacMaster Thorpe. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Anita Thorpe Crane and a brother, David B. Thorpe. He is survived by his brother, George E. Thorpe and his wife, Theresa Robles Thorpe of Huntingdon PA; four nieces; Liesje Thorpe Germ, Sharon Thorpe McIlnay, Rachel Crane Brown and Rebecca Crane; two great nephews, Adam and Owen Germ; and three great nieces, Corinne Germ, Caroline McIlnay and Rose Marie Brown.
Jack was born May 24, 1953 in in Woodbury NJ,. He graduated from Lenape Regional High School, Medford NJ. He attended Oklahoma City University where he majored in Music. Changing careers, he graduated from Orangeburg Regional Hospital School of Nursing in 1984. He successfully passed the South Carolina Registered Nurse state board exam. After graduation he was employed at Orangeburg Regional Hospital.
In January 2000, Jack entered the Salvation Army ARC program in Charlotte, NC. After graduating from the Charlotte ARC program he was promoted to assistant resident manager. In 2004 he was promoted to the position of program coordinator. In August 2006 he was promoted to Program Director. He maintained this position until the time of his death.
Jack was actively involved with the Music Program. He was an accomplished pianist and choral director. He enjoyed exploring nature’s habitats.
Jack was loved by his family, co-workers and the men at the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to his work and his willingness to help everyone in need.
A memorial service will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, January 26th at The Salvation Army, 1023 Central Avenue, Charlotte.
