Chris moved from Columbus with his family at a young age to Akron, Ohio and then to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where he spent most of his childhood and young adult life. Chris graduated from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in 1981. He attended both Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana, where he played soccer, and the University of Akron.
Chris also served his country well as a proud Marine. His service as Corporal, included both active and reserve duty that carried him to various parts of the world - Japan, Philippines, Norway, Iceland and the Mediterranean. When he wasn’t overseas he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. Although he returned to Ohio after active duty, he found himself heading south once again and settling in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chris had spent the past 20+ years working at Carolinas Healthcare System, now Atrium Healthcare. He was passionate about his job - serving his patients and families well in various roles and departments over the years.
Chris was even more passionate about his family, Ohio State football, Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR and Kevin Harvick, working in his yard changing the landscaping and adding new plants and flowers. He loved walking in his neighborhood, talking with neighbors and their dogs. But, most of all he was passionate in his relationship with Jesus that he had recently recommitted to shortly before his diagnosis two years ago.
Chris is survived by his mom, Sue Christopher Parrish (Charlotte); sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Stan Selan (Rock Hill); nephew, Michael Selan (Jordan); niece, Madison Satterfield (Jacob); and his great-niece, Marjorie Selan. He is also survived by his aunt, Barbara and cousins, Steve and Rob Christopher and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his dad, John Parrish; maternal grandparents, Tom and Evelyn Christopher; paternal grandparents, Jim and VirDel Parrish; and a sweet angel baby.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Earle Burgess and his entire team at Levine Cancer Institute, especially Kendra and Pam. Along with Chris’s medical team, the family are also grateful for additional family and friends that have journeyed with Chris the past two years so faithfully.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 15th, at Forest Hill Church, 7224 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC. The family will receive guests following the service with a reception.
