John Owen Harkey Jr.

John Owen Harkey Jr. born July 3, 1944 in Presbyterian Hospital Charlotte passed away at his home on January 5, 2015. John was born in Charlotte, NC to the late John O. Harkey Sr. and Wilma Wilson. He was a 1962 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. Before retiring he worked as Electronic Technician for the Post Office for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife of 49 and a half years, Pat Harkey; sons, Michael “Chris” Harkey, Jonathan Thomas Harkey; daughter, Kelly Harkey Porter and her husband Brian Porter ;brother Robert “Bobby” Harkey (Eltie);sister, Alice “Susie” Cauble (David) and Marie Judy Merchant;sister-in-law, Linda Oliver; grand children,Mekenzi Porter and Valarie Porter. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens in Charlotte.
