John Thomas Grooms

Born January 1, 1931 in Paw Creek, NC, John was the son of the late Joseph Benjamin Grooms, Sr. and Dovie Allen Grooms.

John was a former member of Briarcreek Baptist Church and a current member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the US Air Force. He worked for Social Security, Western Publishing Company and Family Dollar.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Underwood Grooms; a daughter, Cathy Crawford; a son-in- law, Joe Brown; 4 grandchildren, Brandon, Jarrett, Megan and Maura; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was a daughter, Terry Brown; a son-in-law, Marlon Crawford and 5 siblings, Jake Grooms, Luke Grooms, Bettie Grooms, Shirley Love and Louise Johnson.

Friends may visit from 10 to 11 am Friday, February 21, 2020 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am.

Committal services, military honors and burial will take place in Sharon Memorial Park, immediately following the service.

The family would like to thank everyone who has supported John and Betty along their journey.
