Mr. Davenport, 88, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on February 17, 2011 at the Carriage Club.
He was born on June 13, 1922 in Charlotte, a son of the late John Marshall and Eva Wilson Davenport. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Elaine Wynne Davenport, brother William S. Davenport, sisters, Mrs. J.F. Caldwell and Mrs. J.K. Parker, Jr.
John graduated Central High School in 1940, Lees-McRae Jr. College in 1942 and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1950. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Hamlin during World War II. He was a former Cubmaster of Pack 158 and Pack 81, and Scoutmaster of Troop 81. John was a member of Westgate Lodge #738 AF & AM and Scottish Rite Bodies.
Mr. Davenport retired from Southern Engineering Co. of Charlotte where he served as a draftsman for 32 years.
He is survived by his sons, J. Marshall Davenport, III and wife, Meggin, of Knoxville, TN, C. Scott Davenport, DDS and wife, Rachel; sisters, Mrs. H.A. Graham and Mrs. R.H. Livermon, all of Charlotte. He is, also, survived by grandchildren, Nathan E. Davenport and Erin M. Davenport of Knoxville, and Christopher S. Davenport and Jonathan P. Davenport of Charlotte
The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Harry & Bryant Company, Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon, February 20th at the funeral home.
