It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Victor Burke on December 12, 2024 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
John was born on September 3, 1945 to John Francis and Emma Lee in Camp Lejeune Military Hospital, North Carolina. He spent his young life in Jacksonville, NC graduating in the same place in 1963. He enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States in 1974. While in the army, he pursued his Bachelors degree in Psychology. After he left the army, he continued his education to earn his Masters Degree in Counseling and later worked as a counselor at the Vietnam Vet Center. He pursued other avenues and later was employed at the United States Postal Service where he retired on July 4, 2014.
John loved to dance when he was young. He also loved card games, playing billiards, singing karaoke and traveling. He and his wife, Eudora Burke enjoyed their trips to some parts of the US, Europe, and the Philippines where his wife is from.
John or Johnny as his relatives and friends called him was a loving husband to his wife Eudora and a loving father to his children Donovan Allen Burke, Aaron Michael Burke, Rachel Lee Burke, and Christie Best. He was also a devoted son and together with his brother, Daniel Michael Burke, was caring for his 98 year old mother, Emma Lee Vineyard. He was a loving brother to his sister, Sharon Koehler. John will be greatly missed by his relatives and friends.
The Services will be held on December 20, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will start at 11:00 am, followed by Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm immediately followed by a Reception at 1:00pm, and a Committal Service with Military Honors at 2:00 pm at Sharon Memorial Park.
