Oh my Beautiful Daddy, eyes of so blue. I am the girl I am today, all because of you! Calloused hands and strong arms, holding me tight, showing me love, all through the night. Letting me cry and wiping my tears, and reminding me there was nothing to fear. My first love, my forever love, the love of my life. Oh, my Beautiful Daddy…..I will love you forever…….for the rest of my life!
My beautiful precious Daddy, Joe Albert Furr, ran to Glory and into the arms of Jesus and Mama and Cindy and the baby Saturday morning April 6th, 2024 – at home – on the farm he loved so dearly - he was 86 years young.
Born on April 25, 1937 to Billie Ruth and Floyd Furr in Pineville, N. C. He was fondly referred to as a ‘Pineville Boy’.
Upon graduation from East Mecklenburg High School, he began his career with Southern Bell Telephone Company and married the love of his life, Doris Jean McAllister, on September 18, 1959. Shortly after their marriage, Joe was drafted to go serve in the Korean War. Two years later, he returned home and their beautiful life began. Their love story stood the test of time, was contagious, amazing, strong, faithful, and truly they were each other’s soul mate.
During their 62 years of marriage, they had two beautiful daughters: Cynthia Jean and Sharon Rene’. A Daddy and his girls – they were his world! He sacrificed everything for them, with never one regret. He also was gifted with a beautiful Grandbaby girl named McAllister. He never stood a chance in a house with 4 girls. Daddy wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Daddy, a Korean War Veteran, retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 35 years of service. He was a master woodworker, lover of fishing with all the boys at the Core Banks. A master at cooking BBQ, setting up pits and cooking pig all over the country, and pulling “all-nighters” with so many wonderful boys from the Steele Creek area. But, his true passion was singing and directing the St. James Male Chorus for nearly 55 years.
His deep love of dogs and horses would forever change the lives of both girls. They would go on to be avid horsewomen and have a deep connection with their canine companions.
Daddy is preceded in death by his Mother and Daddy, the love of his life Jean, his beautiful daughter Cindy and his beautiful grandbaby girl, McAllister. Also, he is preceded in death by men who not only made an impact on his life, but left a void and scars on his heart when they were gone - Jack McGee, Mr. Jim Creighton, Mr. Johnny Holmes, Paul Ramey, Ed Puckett, Nobel Whisnett, PawPaw Lowder, Wendell Cunningham, Floyd Gray, Alton Harris, and Cecil Holescloth.
He leaves behind his baby girl Sharon and her husband Daniel S. Brite (Danny), along with so many friends and family that loved him beyond words.
There are just too many to thank for all the love you’ve given throughout the years. So, just know I am forever grateful to you. But to you: Audrey McAllister Mershon, MacRay Elliott, Calvin Kenley, Uncle Dootsie McAllister and Uncle Andy McAllister, Missy and Ron Jennings, and especially to you, our precious Amy Pressley, I can never thank you enough for your love and your care through the years. It is a debt I can never repay. And, a big thank you goes out to Agape Care South Carolina, Martha Martel and Sandy Edgington.
My heart is broken, but the beauty of it all is, now he’s with his beautiful girls and I just can’t imagine what an unbelievable, magnificent morning it must have been for Daddy!
Graveside service will be held at Ebenezer Presbyterian ARP Church Cemetery, 6210 Old Pineville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217 on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
