Joan Akscin

Joan was born July 5, 1953 to the late William J. and Emily T. (Mileska) Borkowski in Riverhead, NY. Born and raised in Cutchogue, NY, she was a graduate of Southold High School and Middletown State Hospital of Nursing. She raised her family in Southold and worked as a registered nurse at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, NY until her retirement in 1997. Joan later lived and worked as an RN in Statesville, NC and Ormond Beach, FL before moving to Clover, SC in 2018.

Joan was a devoted Christian and her relationship with the Lord was a central part of who she was. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and painting but most of all, she adored her family.

She is survived by her children, Andrew Akscin (Shannon) of Greenport, NY and Tracey (Jason) Goff of Holly Hill, FL; brothers Larry (Tara) Borkowski of Mint Hill, NC, Michael Borkowski (Jodi) of Clover, SC and Marty (Lisa) Borkowski of Statesville, NC, sister-in-law Kathy Borkowski of North Wilkesboro, NC; aunts, uncles and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by brothers David Borkowski and William Borkowski.

Joan’s loving heart will be missed by all who knew her but especially her children and her family. We are truly grateful that Joan is now at peace with her Creator. At her request, there will be no formal funeral services. Instead, a private family celebration of her life is planned at a later date.
