Jo Ann was born in Raleigh, NC in 1935 to the late Robert and Floy Farmer. Jo Ann was the oldest of three siblings. Most of her younger days were spent in Raleigh, where she would graduate from Hugh Morson High School.
Upon graduation she would go on to meet the love of her life, Clarence, and the two got married on July 20, 1957. From this union they had two daughters, Lisa Rice and Laura Watts.
Jo Ann was known for many wonderful things, but most of all she was a dancer. Her love for dancing would lead her to open the Salisbury School of Ballet, in Salisbury, NC. Jo Ann not only was the owner but she also loved to teach the children how to dance.
Outside of dancing you could find her sewing or even being a dog trainer. Often she would enjoy to go traveling with her brother, Reggie and her sister-in-law, Kay. Jo Ann and Clarence also shared a love for sailing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Floy Farmer; and her brother, Reggie Farmer.
Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of over 60 years, Clarence Smith Jr.; her loving daughters, Lisa Rice and Laura Watts; one younger brother, Freddie Farmer; and her wonderful grandchildren, Hamilton Rice and Rosa Rice. Along with many other family members and friends.
