Born April 21, 1930 in Griffin, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Dr. J. Render Anthony and Henrietta Goddard Anthony. She graduated from Griffin High School in 1948. She pursued a very successful career in real estate from the 1960’s until 2014. She was a member of the Akron Area Board of Realtors. She was the President’s Sales Club Award Winner of the Ohio Association of Realtors numerous times. She was top sales associate for different realty companies and got letters from customers who were appreciative of her knowledge and expertise.
Jo was a member of The Chapel in Akron, Ohio and participated in bible studies and church activities for decades. She was an excellent seamstress and made children’s, women’s and men’s clothing. One of her favorite sayings was, “ You’re the sum total of all your experiences that make you the kind of person you are today.”
She married Sidney G. Main, Jr. on July 29, 1950 during a small ceremony in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Sidney G. Main, Jr.; two children and their spouses, Sidney G. Main III and wife Chris of King, N.C. and Lucinda Hill and husband John of Rock Hill, S.C.; and five beloved grandchildren, Andrew Main, Christi Wells, Laura Reynolds,Carrie Hansley and Kara Hill and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Adelaide Anthony.
Services will be held at Harvest Baptist Church, 153 Miller Pond Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732 on Saturday, January 27, 2018 with a visitation beginning at 1:00 pm, and a service to celebrate Jo’s life to begin at 2 pm. A private burial service for immediate family will be held afterwards at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the dedicated staff at White Oak Manor Rock Hill & Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, SC who took excellent care of Jo in the last stage of her life. The family are also very appreciative of Jo’s best friend, Norma Daniels of Akron, Ohio who loved and cared for her, since family lived far away.
