She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Polly Lynn. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Stewart; children: Larry (Allen) & fiancé, Beth; Elizabeth (Lynn) & husband, Pete; Barbara (Bobi); and Tracy & fiancé, Tim; as well as, three grandchildren: Dustin, Trista and Joe; her sister, Mary & husband, Burwell; her niece, Leslie & husband, Michael, and their three children: Polly, Virginia and Maggie. In addition, she was blessed to have other very close family members, especially her cousin (Cuz) Pat and her “Adorable Aunt Frances”. Her neighbors and friends were very supportive and important to her as well.
Jo Ann worked for Northwestern Bank for 5 years after going to CCB/First Union/SunTrust, which she retired from after 25 years of service in order to care for her parents along with her husband’s parents who were in ill health. She considered her co-workers at SunTrust as friends.
Jo Ann enjoyed flower gardening. She took pride in the blossoming of every season as if each was a new life. Family was her passion and delight. She carried on many traditions, including an annual family beach trip with her children and grandchildren. Family was important to her and, she was the bond that kept them together. Her love was genuine and unconditional.
The family would like to thank all of you who have provided care during Jo Ann’s illness. They say, “It takes a village” but, the bond of neighbors has far surpassed that. A special thanks to Hospice for nurse, Beth, nursing assistant, LaWanda, and social worker, Robin. And to We Care Inhome Care for Linda and Val who have provided 24/7 in-home care for both Larry and Jo Ann. They have been more than just caregivers; they became an extension of the family. Your kindness and compassion meant a lot to Jo Ann and her family.
