Jo Ann McDonald, 66, of Charlotte NC, formerly of Portland Maine, lost her brief battle with cancer on September 1st 2014 surrounded by loving friends and family. Born in Portland on May 18, 1948, she was a beloved mother, sister and friend to nearly all who she shared time with.
With a lifelong love for adventure, her travels took her all over the country and the world. Growing up in the northeast and with a brave sense of adventure she made a home in several states throughout her life. She always made friends along the way whether it was a neighbor next door, a member of her church or even someone in a checkout line at a grocery store. In nearly all aspects of her life, Jo always took time to help others. She was a member of the North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington, Vermont, then later at the Lifepointe Christian Church in Fort Mill, SC. She also recently became a member of the York County Quilters Guild.
Jo was predeceased by her husband Francis McDonald in 1998; her sister, Sue Joseph and her brother James Stoddard. She is survived by her sons, Scott McDonald and wife Kate of Charlotte, NC; Andrew McDonald and wife Jessika of Milton, VT and Jay McDonald and wife Laura of Burlington, VT; grandchildren, Deven and Hunter McDonald of Charlotte, NC and Isabella and Cailyn McDonald of Burlington, VT; her sister, Linda Mullen of Charlotte, NC; her two brothers John Stoddard and Perry Stoddard of Manchester, NH; nieces and nephews Peter and Tim Mullen of NC, Rachel Stoddard of NY, Darcie Vlangas and Haylie Stoddard of NH, Jack and Jess Joseph of NH and god-daughter Patricia Julliette.
The family would like to thank all the caring people from the Lifepointe congregation as well as the great staff of Levine and Dickson Hospice House for the great love and support through her last days.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday September 4 at 6:30 pm followed by a visitation and reception at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte.

The family will also have a graveside service on September 20th at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington, VT where she will rest alongside her husband Frank McDonald.
