Mrs. Jewel Diane Manning Helms, 68, of Mooresvile, entered into rest on Wednesday May 20, 2015 at her home after an extended illness. Born in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Bobbie Bell Manning, Sr. and Senna Eldora Rollins Manning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cissy Helms; by two sisters, Patricia Hoagland and Sadie Etters; and by a brother, Jimmy O’Conner. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Jewel is survived by her beloved husband of fifty (50) years, Garry L. Helms, Sr. of Mooresville; by two sons, Lenny Helms and fiancée Jennifer Rapoza of Charlotte and P.J. Helms and his fiancée Brittany Knecht of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Two brothers, Billy Manning and wife JoAnn of Mooresville and Bobbie Manning, Jr. and wife Ann of Fall Branch, Tennessee, and a sister, Sandy Matthews of Kannapolis, also survive her. The apple of her eye, a grandson, Garry Leonard Helms, III, survives her as well.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Jewel will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
