Jerry Thomas Rogers, 86, was born in his parents' home in Charlotte, NC. His father was T. Martin Rogers and his mother was Sally B. Rogers. He died at Royal Park Nursing and Rehab in Matthews, NC.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Elaine Y. Rogers and three sons – Jeff Rogers (Tara) of Charlotte, NC, Danny Rogers of Greenville, SC, and Charles Rogers (Ginger), also of Greenville, SC. Jerry and Elaine have three grandchildren – Matthew Rogers (Kristin), Taylor Rogers, and Sean Rogers, along with three great-grandchildren – Jackson, Adeline and Lincoln Rogers. Also a niece, Frankie Rogers Fincher of Charlotte, NC.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother U. Monroe Rogers, and sister, Lula Rogers Allen.
Jerry served honorably in the US Navy from 1956 until 1960 and was aboard the USS Frontier (AD-25). He was employed by Pritchard Paint and Glass Co. for 32 years. From his youth, Jerry loved to sing and had a rich bass voice. He especially enjoyed singing in quartets, as well as his church choir. Music was very important to him, and one of his enduring legacies was that he passed this love on to his family.
A worship celebration of Jerry's life will be at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church on December 17, 2019, located at 1117 South Blvd. in Charlotte. Visitation will be at 12:00 noon, with service to follow at 1:30 pm. A brief graveside service and interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park cemetery on Monroe Rd in Charlotte.
Rev. Bobby Morrow, Senior Pastor at Pritchard, will officiate, with funeral services provided by McEwen Charlotte.
