Ms. Scott was born in Port St. Joe, Fla. on September 23, 1944, to Howard Love McKinnon and Jennie Mae Nichols McKinnon. She graduated valedictorian from Chattahoochee High School, attended Agnes Scott College and then the University of Florida, where she received a degree in mathematics. She was an alumna of Tri Delta sorority and was an SAE sweetheart. She initially wanted to travel and became an Eastern Airlines stewardess. She completed Eastern’s vigorous training and was bestowed the honor of “Gibson Girl,” designating her as the attendant with “the most poise, charm and congeniality.” She worked as a systems analyst for the Florida Department of Transportation in Tallahassee and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
Ms. Scott joined Springs Industries in 1978 as Lead Systems Analyst. When she retired in 2005, she was a member of the Springs senior leadership team as Vice President - Human Resources Development. One of her proudest accomplishments was the creation of a corporate Diversity Council focused on leveraging the company's cultural diversity to improve business results.
Jennifer was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved in Stephen Ministry. She was a board president for Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Center of Charlotte, a board member for R.A.I.N., and chaired committees with Women Executives.
Jennifer loved to travel with her friends and entertain for holiday celebrations. She was a devoted fan of the Florida Gators, always had a crossword puzzle in progress, and was an excellent bridge player. A petite woman with a big heart and a bigger laugh, she wore her pink ribbon as a breast cancer survivor with pride and worked to support breast cancer research. She made many friends and was especially faithful in keeping in touch with those from her past. From her high school valedictorian address: “You give but little when you give of your possessions….it is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”
She is survived by her devoted son, Stephen Scott of Charlotte.
