Jeanette Phillips Driggers, 79, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2014 while in Presbyterian Matthews Hospital. Jeanette was born on December 28, 1934 in Mecklenburg County to the late Ernest Dewitt and Irene Foard Phillips.
Jeanette graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1953 with honors including President of the National Honor Society and the Senior Superlative “Friendliest”. After graduating, Jeanette began work in the insurance industry as an office manager. The next phase of her career was spent with Sustar’s Alignment as their secretary/receptionist until her retirement in 1997. Her golden years were filled with many activities. Central to her life was her participation in Philadelphia Presbyterian Church where she was awarded Women of the Church Honorary Life Membership, served as a deacon and sang in the choir for more than 40 years. Additionally, she was leader and treasurer of the Jolly Good Timers, on the Visitation Team, and an active Circle member for many years. Jeanette was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Earp-Williams VFW Post #4059 in Mint Hill.
She leaves a legacy of love and generosity that will serve as an example and be cherished by her family and friends. She was a devoted and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Anyone who knew Jeanette benefitted from her passion as a “citizen meteorologist” and she kept “Mint Hill” well informed. Having played on her high school basketball team, she always enjoyed watching a good game. She loved family and social events especially when they included a game of cards.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by her siblings, Eloise McIntyre and Yates Phillips. She is survived by her children, Carol Driggers (David Hatch), Gwen Driggers Renfroe, Chris Driggers (Kelly); grandchildren, Destiny, J.R., and Alex; sisters, Rachel Tweed, Thelma Campbell, Frances Kiser (Bob) and Gladys Suggs (Bob); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 6:00pm at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill. Visitation will follow the service immediately until 9:00pm.
