Born in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Noel Blair and Margaret Lea Heafner Cathcart.
Jean was a long-time member of Mulberry Presbyterian Church and an abundantly gifted arts and crafts instructor for many years. She taught arts and crafts in many venues in and around the Charlotte area and worked for more than 30 years at Aldersgate in Charlotte where she shared her talent.
Her crafts included weaving, ceramics, quilting, basketry, china and oil painting, sewing, caning; decoupage, knitting, macramé, crochet and much more. At one time, Jean had the largest thimble collection in the southeast and was invited to appear on the Betty Feezor Show that aired on WBTV for many years.
Jean was also a world traveler and visited many countries and islands.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Thomas Harold Cathcart, brother, Alton Glenn Robinson and long-time companion Robert Walton Benton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Beverly Melton (John) and Thomas Eugene Cathcart (Pamela); brother, Merle Robinson (Barbara); grandchildren, Jason Cathcart (Ashley), Laura Cathcart and John Melton (Jami); great-grandchildren, Jack, Max, and Mia Melton.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery with Reverend Gene Boatwright officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 until 1:45pm at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
