Mrs. Helms, 97 of Charlotte died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at home with her family. She was born in Mecklenburg County November 14, 1921, was the wife of the late W. Wray Helms and daughter of the late Joseph Lloyd and Annie Moody Springs.
She was a graduate of Berryhill School and Kings Business College. She retired from the CMS school system in 1985 as an Area Superintendent secretary. Her fondest times were spent in her yard with her flowers and baking for unexpected visitors and the sick. As an active member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church she was a member of the Joy/Grace Circle and Women of the Church where she was given a Honorary Life Membership in 2005.
Survivors include sons Terry (Barri) of Charlotte and Donald (Betsy) of Conway, SC. Four grandchildren, Jennifer Stokes (Ross) of Albemarle, Maggie Helms of Charlotte, David Helms (Kathy) of Chapin, SC, and Beth Helms of Conway, SC. She was also the great-grandmother of three, Claire and Wray Stokes and Hunter Wray Helms. She is also survived by two step-brothers, Jennings (Nancy) and Kay (Susan) Heileg and her special sister-in-law Doris Springs along with very special neices and nephews.
Along with her husband Wray, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Murray and Joe Springs, and sister Betty Holder.
The family offers deep gratitude for the exceptional care given by Frances Brown and the nurses and aides at Hospice & Palative Care.
A celebration of her life will be held at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 22nd at 11a.m. Visitation of family and friends will follow the service in the church fellowship center.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church Charlotte or to Hospice Palative Care Charlotte.
