A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014, at McEwen Funeral Service Monroe Chapel, 204 South Main Street, Monroe, NC 28112 with interment to follow in Godwin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
James was born June 13, 1930, in Union County, NC to the late William and Anne Williams. He served 4 years in the Army and was stationed at VA Beach. In 1965, he married Jeanette B. Williams in York, SC. He was a member of Cornerstone Family Worship where he was an elder, greeter and an usher, a member of the Moose Lodge and Jones Hunting Club.
James retired from Davey Tree Co. after 40 years of service where he was the first ever Safety Manager and an advisor on the Presidents Council.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son James Harold “Jimmy” Williams; brothers, David Williams, CW Williams, Harold Williams and his sister, Margie Young. He is survived by his wife Jeanette B. Williams of Charlotte; daughter, Leah W. Lowery and husband Tony of Charlotte; son, Joseph Eric Williams and wife Dina of Iron Station; brother, Bobby Williams of Holden Beach; grandchildren, Ericka Williams, Joey Williams and wife Courtney, Matthew James Williams, Levi James Williams, Bradley Williams, Johnathan Phifer, Dillon Lowery and Logan Lowery and three great grandchildren.
Pall bearers for the service are, Joey Williams, Mike Smith, Michael Marler, Dale Newcombe, Bill McClure and Max McClure “Short”.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
