Jimmy was born March 13, 1954 in Charlotte, to Sara Hunter Wade and the late Julius Jennings “Jake” Wade, Jr. He was a lifelong Charlotte resident.
Jimmy was a lively boy and a good athlete, playing football and baseball at Myers Park High School. He enjoyed showing his athletic friends that he could even sing and dance in the school play and never turned down a good pick-up game.
Over his life, Jimmy was up for trying new things, whether it be flying a plane, riding a motorcycle, skiing on snow or water, traveling out West or boating on the ocean blue.
Jimmy attended East Carolina but then graduated from Campbell University, before he obtained his law degree from Campbell School of Law.
Jimmy honored his father’s commitment to youth baseball by helping out in recent years with field maintenance at Myers Park Trinity Little League. He made friends easily, had a gentle disposition, and was well-mannered, but was a man of few words. He had a trademark smirk that led to a welcoming smile.
Jimmy spent many years at Wrightsville beach, and loved it so much, he asked that his remains be scattered there after his death.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Sara Hunter Wade; his children, Malone Elizabeth Lockaby (Rafe), Quinn O’Neal Yi (John), Rebecca Carney Wade; his brother, Julius Jennings “Jay” Wade, III; his sister, Amelia Wade Worley; and his grandchildren, Ellington Yi, Winsley Yi, and Adaline Yi.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church Chapel, 1412 Providence Rd.,
Charlotte, NC 28207, on Friday, January 18, at 11 am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wrightsville Beach Foundation, PO Box 956, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
