Mike attended Myers Park High School, where he lettered in both football and track and field. He graduated in 1964, and attended Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA, in 1965. Mike graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics, and was a four-year varsity letterman. He was elected to the East/West and North/South College Shrine Bowl games. Mike was drafted in the fourth round of the 1969 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills; he played one year with the Buffalo Bills and one year with the New Orleans Saints. In 1975 he joined First Union National Bank in their Capital Markets Fixed Income division. He finished his career at First Union in 2003 as Senior Vice President of Fixed Income; then joined FTN Financial in 2004. Mike retired in 2007 from Capital Markets.
Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pam, and his two children, son Garrett, and daughter Rachel.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Joan Watson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
