James Robert Putnam, 89, of Pineville passed away on August 7, 2017 in the loving gentle care of Hospice of Union County. Jim was born in Marion County, West Virginia on April 7, 1928. He entered the United States Air Force in August 1, 1951 and served for 8 years. It was there that he was introduced to the new field of computers and IT Technology. Jim went on to work as a Director of IT in the trucking industry. Upon retirement, he taught himself how to play the keyboard (and enjoyed playing for friends); he was also a skilled carpenter and enjoyed sharing that talent with friends, family and neighbors. Jim loved to help others and was cheerful, positive and upbeat and was a blessing in the lives of so many people.
Jim is survived by his three children; Andrew Putnam of Australia, Karen Becker of Baltimore, Maryland and Siri Ellis and her husband Dave. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte. The Funeral service will be held at McEwen on Friday August 11 at 11:00 am followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park.
