James "Jim" Allen Prince

CHARLOTTE - James Allen Prince (Jim), 74, passed peacefully in his home late Saturday evening, February 24, 2018 in the company of his loving wife, Pamela Thibodeaux Prince and his two daughters, Kelly Powell and Leslie Griffin from a former marriage to Sherri Johnson Prince. Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte helped care for Jim with his long battle with lung disease.

Jim was born December 19, 1943 in Huntington, WV to James Leslie Prince and Myrtle Williams. He attended Huntington East High School and the Marshall University, of which a movie was made called "We Are Marshall". Jim worked for Xylem Inc. as a sales representative in the water and waste water equipment business. He was highly regarded by colleagues who referred to him as the "Prince of Pumps". Throughout the nation he was thought of as a gentleman, fair, and a prince among men.

Jim and Pamela were inseparable for almost 27 years. They were married at Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City by the legendary Eric Butterworth of the Unity Center New York, and accompanied by his wife Olga Butterworth. Jim was admired and known for his resonant baritone voice. While honeymooning in Ireland, he sang with an opera singer at the Waterford Castle and did voiceovers for Xylem Inc.

Pamela and Jim enjoyed traveling to grand historic resorts and dining in some of Charlotte's restaurants that embraced them lovingly like family. While touring the nation with the

Tarheel Cyclists, he made many friends on his Trek bicycle. Jim's hobbies were reading, woodworking, cycling and singing. James A. Prince was truly a Prince that adored and treated his wife like a Princess.

Jim was a loving father to his two daughters and his two grandsons, Zachary Griffin and Caleb Powell. In addition to his wife, Pamela, daughters, Kelly and Leslie, and grandsons, Jim is survived by a sister, Jeannie Coleman. He is preceded in death by sisters, Helen Butler, Eloise Ward and Eileen Perry.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 24th in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. A visitation and reception for family and friends will follow the service.
