He passed away surrounded by his family and into the arms of Jesus. James was born September 28, 1929, in Pineville, NC to George Mitchell McCully and Carrie Keeffe McCully. He was the oldest of five children, James, Bobbie Jean, Donnie, Joyce, and Ken. James joined the U.S. Army in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951. He met the love of his life and was married to Margaret (Peggy) Ann Rea in 1956. James and Peggy had three children, Linda, Mike, and Bob. James and Peggy were married for 40 years.
James was a Renaissance man. He seemed to have unending interest in all kinds of things. (Baseball Player, Soldier, marble maker, carpenter, bowler, Master farmer), (he was never afraid of trying different vegetables). He raised rabbits, quail, doves, ducks, chickens, turkeys, pheasants, and a horse named Bill. James collected stamps, coins, and rocks. He was a certified Gemologist and master gem cutter. He was a voracious reader and had numerous computer class certifications. James was our family genealogist and served as President of the Lancaster Genealogy Society.
James was preceded in death by father, George Mitchell McCully; mother, Carrie Keeffe McCully, brother, Charles McCully; brother, Donald Leroy McCulley; sister, Joyce Mae Dagenhart; wife, Margaret; great grandson, Tyler Sanders, and Michael Rea McCully (Beth).
James is survived by his sister, Bobbie-Jean Ashley; brother, Ken McCulley; daughter, Linda-McCully-King (Dave); his son, Robert James” Bob” McCully (Debbie) and his daughter-in-law, Beth Thompson McCully; grandchildren: Jason Sanders (Kat), James “Jymi” McCully (Faye), Mitchell “Mitch” Sanders (Tiffany), Rebeccah McCully, Branden McCully and Kristi McCully; and six great grandchildren: Toby, Darren, Triniti, Tianna, Telsey, and Tason.
You may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts, James Mitchell McCully aka. Mr. James, Jim, Dusty, Mac, brother, Uncle James, pop, Pawpaw and Daddy.
There will be a celebration of life at Flint Hill Baptist Church, Fort Mill, SC, graveside on November 23, 2024 at 11 AM.
