Jim Martin of Belmont, NC, passed away on October 11, 2014. Jim was born in Gaston County on July 30, 1932, a son of the late William and Esther Hollifield Martin. He was a Gaston County native but moved to Charlotte for 40 years before moving to Belmont.
Jim leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey Roberts Martin, to cherish his memory. Survivors also include his daughter Sandra Martin Porter and his son Brian Roberts Martin; grandchildren Chad Porter and Josh Porter; two brothers Bill Martin (Betty) and Ronnie Martin; sister-in-laws Pamela Nabers and Judith Hipps; niece Tonya McNeill (Paul) and their children; nephews John Hipps and Joshua Hipps and nephew Pat Martin and his family of Raleigh, NC as well as his beloved furry companion Daniel Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his son James (Jay) Roland Martin Jr. and his grandson Thomas Dixon Gable.
Jim was a member of Temple Lodge 676 AM&FM and was a member of Oasis Temple of Shrine of Charlotte. Jim was a huge sports fan who loved the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Tarheels. He also enjoyed antiques and any old junk piece he thought could be a collectible. He and his wife spent 20 years at Metrolina Expo.
A service to celebrate the life of Jim Martin will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at McEwen Chapel on Monroe Road, with the Rev. Chris Howell officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
