Huntersville, NC-James Grey Horne, Sr., 90, of Charlotte, NC passed away late Monday afternoon, July 21, 2014 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House.
Born in Winston Salem, NC on July 19, 1924, James was a son of the late William J. and Odell Marie Frith Horne.
A veteran of WWII, he had served with the US Navy. He was a retired mechanic from Twin States Trucking Equipment and had worked for Merry Oaks Elementary School.
He was a member of Commonwealth United Methodist Church and Spencer Memorial United Methodist Church.
Additionally, he was a member of the VFW Post 9488.
Survivors include his wife, Alma P. Horne, whom he married July 3, 1948; a son, James G. Horne, Jr. and his wife, Kelli of Charlotte, NC along with two granddaughters, Melissa Neu and her husband, Bart and Lindsey Horne and Derek. Four great grandchildren survive as well, Jackson, Natalie, Henry and Elliott.
There are two surviving siblings, Gladys Horne and Frank Horne both of Charlotte, NC.
Preceding him death were a siblings William Joseph Horne Jr. and Nell Marie Horne.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm Friday, July 25, 2014 at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262, with Rev. Peggy Bridgers officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home on Friday.
Burial will take place in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens where military honors will be provided by the US Navy.
