Jim was born in Honea Path, South Carolina to Eugene and Fannie Harper. He is also preceded in death by his wife Anna C. Harper, and brothers Charles Harper and Roy D. Harper.
He is survived by his godson Alexander Burkart, and his adopted family John and Tammy Burkart, and daughters Katherine and Emma Burkart.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was a long time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he served as a Corporate Officer, Deacon and an assistant Sunday School teacher.
Jim always spoke of his relationship with Jesus and knew that no matter when his time came, he was ready to meet his Savior. His joyful and generous heart will be greatly missed.
Services for Jim will be at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217 on Thursday, January 19, 2023 with a visitation from 12 noon to 1 pm, and the funeral starting at 1 pm. Burial will be immediately afterwards at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205.
