Mr. James David “Red” Gardner, Jr., 71, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 24, 2015. A native of Avery Co., North Carolina, he was the loving husband of the late Gloria Jean O’Shields. Mr. Gardner served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. He was in charge of the motor pool during his tour of duty. “Red” could talk on any subject, loved sports and politics, and was a generous and loving man. A smile would come to anyone’s face when they think about “Red”. He retired from Troutman Gulf and Kelly Tire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Gardner and sister, Ann Greene
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Washburn and husband David of Stanley; by niece, Deanna Gardner of Reidsville; by nephew David Greene and wife Leah; by great-nieces Amanda Watson and husband Josh and Sarah Greene, all of Reidsville; by a great-nephew, Chandon Gardner of Reidsville; and by great-great nieces Kynli and Sophia Watson.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park with the Rev. Earl Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
