Born January 5, 1964 in Hendersonville, NC, he was the son of the late James A. Duyck,, Sr. and Sara Peterson Duyck. After graduation from A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, Jim earned a degree in business from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His career in banking began in 1991. The last 23 years were spent at Bank of America, where he was a senior vice president in the private banking area. Jim met life long friends who remained loyal and devoted friends throughout his illness.
The joy of Jim’s life was his family. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He adored his wife, the former Michelle Steppe of Farmville, NC, whom he married July 25, 1998. Jim is survived by five children, Samuel Duyck (Lizzie) and grandchildren Owen and Annie, Sarah McDonald (Jake) and grandchildren Ansley and Mac, Ben Duyck, Ryan Gibbons (Katie) and grandchildren Tate and Tucker, and Emily Gibbons. Jim is also survived by two loving sisters, Sheila Duyck of Charlotte and Lisa Lyles of Asheville; as well as two devoted nieces and one nephew.
Jim was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church where he coached basketball for many years. He coached all three of his sons and multiple other youth through this calling. Some of his greatest times were spent on the basketball court coaching and mentoring young men.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Saturday, April 20th at 2:00 pm at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
