“Jim”
Mr. Dunham, 83, of Charlotte passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1927 in White Oak, NC the son of the late Clida Robinson Dunham and William Mangum Dunham, Sr. He is preceded in death by a sister, Daphne Sue Dunham Soder.
Jim was born and raised on a family farm in White Oak, NC. He graduated from White Oak High School in 1947 and moved to Charlotte, where his first job was wrapping gifts for Ivey’s department store. Jim served his country with distinction in the US Army. After meeting his wife, Hedy, in Munich, Germany he returned to Charlotte and began a successful career in the building supply industries.
A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Jim was active in St. Luke UMC for more than 50 years. He was known for his ever-present smile, generous spirit and sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening, animals, sports (Carolina Panthers), and most of all, his family. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, his greatest joy in life was his family. Over the years, they enjoyed many memorable times together, including vacations at the beach and mountains.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Hedy Dunham; daughters, Christa Dunham Wayne and husband Ken, Teresa Dunham Dugger and husband James and Karin Dunham; grandchildren, James Wayne, Margaret Dugger, Patrick Dugger (Caroline) all of Charlotte, and Lucy Dugger of Greenville, SC; brothers, William Mangum Dunham, Jr., Durwood Robinson Dunham (Miriam), and John Ira Dunham Sr. (Patsy); sister, Virginia Elizabeth Dunham; and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. Luke United Methodist Church. A visitation will follow the service at the church.
