

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. James Michael Crates on July 25, 2024. Better known as Jimmy, he was born on August 2, 1937, and lived a life full of love, faith, an accomplishment.
Jim is survived by his dedicated wife of 61 years, Wilma Crates, whom he loved dearly and married in 1963. He leaves behind brother, Tommy Crates (Barbara); sisters, Martha Crates Thorne, Kathleen Crates Miner (Rick); and children: daughter, Cindy Crates Mankin; son, Mike Crates; son-in-law, Robert Mankin; daughter-in-law, Lorie Crates. His legacy will continue through his grandchildren, Pierson Hargett and Jameson Crates. He is preceded by his parents, James (Jim) Crates, and Mary B. Crates.
Jim was a devoted attendee at St. Ann Catholic Church. His faith was imperative to his life, shaping is character into the man we all knew and loved. His personality was best described by his love for God, his wife, and is family. Jimmy imparted valuable lessons onto those he encountered, reminding us all to pursue what we truly desire and to treat others as we would want to be treated.
Among his many accomplishments, Jimmy was proud of his 6 years in the Army Reserves and his time as the vice president of Jameson Corporation, which he grew with his father and brother. But above all, he valued his family and the strong relationships he built with them, creating a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Jimmy had a passion for travel, having visited over 21 countries with his family. Each adventure enriched his perspective on life and brought him closer to those he loved. These shared experiences will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family.
In the face of this loss, we remember Jimmy's enduring love for his family, his strong faith, and his generous spirit. His legacy will continue to love on through the lives of those who were fortunate to know him.

Visitation will be at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Ann Catholic Church, 3635 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209 at 11 am. Committal will follow immediately at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.
