James Lawrence Brown, Jr. of Charlotte, age 96, went to be with the Lord peacefully on August 25, 2021, surrounded by loving family members. Jim was born January 24, 1925 in Kershaw, SC to James L. "Lonnie" Brown and Bertha Robinson Brown.
After graduation from high school, Jim entered into the Army Air Force and served his country honorably in WWII as a B-17 aircrew member. He completed his full complement of 35 missions over occupied Europe, and was awarded decorations, including the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters.
Jim went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University. He worked for many years in Charlotte at numerous companies, including Terrell Machine Co. and Alvac Plastics, where he retired as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Jim was a loving and devoted family man and husband. He worked tirelessly his entire life to provide for his family, whom he loved dearly.
Jim was preceded in passing by his parents, Lonnie and Bertha and sisters, Margaret and Valerie. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy; his son, James Michael; son, David Lawrence (Andrea); daughter, Lisa Brown Young; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet dog, Beau.
A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at McEwen at Myers Park, 500 Providence Road. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10:00 am-11:45 am. Interment with military honors will be held at Sharon Memorial Park following the service.
