James Thomas Brady III, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on January 19, 2020 at the age of 65, after a heroic battle to defy insurmountable odds following a heart attack. Jim lived for 25 years fighting the serious effects of a heart aneurysm in 1994, without an ounce of self-pity, and with little adjustment to his high energy, high integrity, tenacious approach to life.
He was born on November 21, 1954 in Buffalo, NY and grew up in Dearborn Heights, MI. He spent every summer growing up in Wilson, NY, where he and his siblings forged deep roots and lifelong friendships in the small Lake Ontario town.
Jim graduated from Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, MI in 1972 and spent a year attending Manlius Pebble Hill School in Syracuse, New York, before going on to graduate from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI in 1977. He met his wife, Tracey Sherblom Brady, weeks after arriving at Hillsdale. He led the Hillsdale Chargers football team as quarterback and captain, while Tracey led the cheerleading squad. Jim and Tracey married in 1978, and after living in Lima, OH for three years, moved to Queensbury, NY, where both of their children were born. He worked at Albany International in Glens Falls, NY for eleven years, and then moved his family to Beverly, Massachusetts, to join his brother at Cyrk, Inc. Jim was EVP of National Accounts at Cyrk, after which he co-founded Stoneacre Partners, Inc, NASCAR RacePoints and the Official NASCAR Members Club. Most recently, Jim continued his work in the racing industry in Charlotte, bringing his forty years of business knowledge, humor, and work ethic to several local companies, including SRI of Mooresville, NC.
James Brady is survived by his wife of 41 years, Tracey Sherblom Brady; his brother, Patrick Brady of Indianapolis, IN (Jennifer Brady); his sister, Meghan Brady Gies of Park City, UT (J. Christopher Gies); his daughter Lauren Brady of Berkeley, CA (Eric Quandt); his son James T. Brady IV of Charlestown, MA (Alicia Brady); his grandchildren, Ava Quandt and Brady Quandt; and 24 nieces and nephews and 14 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents James Thomas Brady, Jr and Edna Lofstedt Brady and his sister, Linnea (Brady) Massey.
Funeral arrangements will take place in two locations. A viewing will be held at the McEwen Funeral Service, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210, on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 2-4 pm, followed by a reception at a private residence in the area.
On Saturday, January 25, 2020, visitation will be at Hamilton & Clark Funeral Home in Wilson, NY from 10:00 am until noon, followed by a Mass at St. Brendan-on-the-Lake at noon, and a celebration of his life at the Wilson House Restaurant at 2:30 pm.
