Born in Mecklenburg County to Oscar and Pearl Ghent Barton, James was a graduate of Central High School. He was involved with many organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, The Shriners and the Order of the Elks.
One of James’ greatest passions was dance. He loved to dance and shared his gift with others as a dance teacher and won numerous awards as a competitor. Ballroom, jitterbug, foxtrot, salsa, waltz or tango – there was no dance that James couldn’t master.
James was a carpenter by trade and was the owner of Regency Laminated Top Company.
James is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Dorothy, Totts, Peggy and Edith. He is survived by his only child, Linda and her husband, Chris Tamilia and grandchildren Joshua Smith, Victoria Crisco and Brittany Tamilia.
Over the Christmas holiday, James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The family greatly appreciates the time and devotion that Pastor David Goodson spent with James.
Dad, I know that you are now dancing and rejoicing with the Lord.
