Born February 11, 1943 in Moorestown, NJ, he was the son of the late Richard Russell Anderson and Marie Helen Anderson (nee McGann). Following graduation from Moorestown High School, James furthered his education at California State University-Fullerton where he earned a bachelors and master’s degree in economics. His career began in sales with Clairol and then Drug Package. He ultimately started his own business, Anderson & Associates, based out of Moorestown which he operated for over 30 years up until his death.
While in California he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Crehan, who was an exchange student from Limerick, Ireland. They married January 4, 1975 and moved home to Moorestown, NJ where they had three children. They happily raised their children, James coached youth basketball for his daughters and played chauffeur to Elizabeth who didn’t drive, driving her around to various Irish music events where he enjoyed a pint and read the paper. Elizabeth pre-deceased James in February 2005.
In 2008 he moved to the Sun City Carolina Lakes community in Fort Mill, SC. He became actively involved in tennis, spending most days on the courts playing in a doubles league. Visits with his children involved long days watching tennis matches on television much to their chagrin! He also went back to school to audit classes at Winthrop University, he kept up with the young kids on campus and even enjoyed school field trips to Greece and Italy. He would return to the Philadelphia area multiple times per year to spend time with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his three children, Tony Anderson (and partner Gemma) of Charlotte, NC, Cara Boiler (Stephen) of Collingswood, NJ, Lisa Gavin (Michael) of North Wales, PA; six beloved granddaughters Keelin, Lile, Eloise, Maeve, Evelyn and Saoirse; his sisters Marie Leahy of St. Johns, FL and Nancy Harker (Sam) of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers Gene Anderson (Sandra) of Diamondhead, MS and Jerry Anderson (Caron) of Belleaire Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date due to COVID restrictions.
