Isabel Brice Guthrie

She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and loving healthcare professional, Diane. She is preceded in death by her sweetheart Thomas Leland Guthrie (2008), son Tommy (1999), brothers Chris (2015) and Charles (2012), sister Jo (1997), and her parents Charles Sr. (1977) and Sue Elizabeth (1982).

Isabel was born on August 31, 1931 and was one of the rare few who can call themselves a native Charlottean. She also spent many of her formative years in Rock Hill, SC with her grandparents. Isabel spoke highly of her time in Neely’s Creek and Lesslie, walking to church, playing in the streams, and making memories with her family.

Isabel (or “Monya” as she came to be known) was a loving grandmother, supporting Courtney and Thomas through all aspects of their lives, whether it was musical or sporting events. They will always cherish the memory of her, spending the night on Friday nights and waking up to eat pancakes and ice-cream for breakfast, Because, “Why not?”

Isabel married the love of her life, Tom (“Pops”) on March 1, 1952 and later welcomed their son Tommy in 1955.

Isabel was an active member of Ebenezer ARP Church in Charlotte, where she chaired the Bereavement Committee, was active in the Women’s Ministry, and kept the children in the nursery.

She loved reading, taking walks, and spending time with her friends and family. People found her easy to talk to and still describe her as “one-of-a-kind”.

She is survived by her grandson Thomas, granddaughter Courtney (Brian Booth, husband), and daughter-in-law Cathey.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to VIA Health Partners (hospice), all of the wonderful CNAs, doctors and nurses that provided such wonderful care of Isabel, and to her “forever friend” Donna Butler for all of her love and support.

The Bible says “and the two shall become one…” Mark 10:8. On the 10th day of November, 2024, Tom and Isabel were reunited for all eternity.

A graveside service will be held at Ebenezer ARP Church Cemetery, 6210 Old Pineville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217 on Wednesday, November, 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM.

A reception will follow at 12 noon at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
