Irene Deaton Aaron was born April 22, 1921 in Greenville, SC to Joseph Elijah Deaton and Alice Hazeltine Summey. She was the youngest of nine children, eight girls and one boy. Irene’s family moved to Spartanburg, SC when she was a year old. After graduating from high school in Spartanburg, Irene moved to Miami, FL to live with an older sister. It was in Florida where she met and later married Preston Ira Aaron on December 21, 1940.
Irene and Preston moved to Detroit, MI at the start of WWII. They worked in an airplane factory, Irene as an inspector of airplane parts. They saved their money and wanted to eventually own their own business.
After the war, Irene and Preston moved to Charlotte, NC. They built and opened their first Dairy Queen in 1947. They worked side by side and made their business very successful.
In 1948 Preston and Irene adopted a son, Dane Stephen Aaron, and then, in 1952, a girl, Janice Lynne Aaron. Irene really loved her children.
Irene was active in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her family was one of the first families in the Charlotte area belonging to the Mormon Church. Irene loved working with children and spent much of her church life working in the Primary Organization.
Irene lived in Charlotte, NC until November 2016 when she moved to Denver, NC to live with her daughter and son-in law.
Irene is survived by her two children: Dane Aaron of Harrisburg, NC and Jan Maloney of Denver, NC; six grandchildren: Stephanie Frost of Provo, UT, Shelley Null of Denver, NC, Shannon VanCleve of Cornelius, NC, April Morris of Clover, SC, Stephen Aaron of Clover, SC and Ben Aaron of Gastonia, NC; eleven great grandchildren: Parker Frost, Alexis Frost, Tate Frost, Summer Frost, Madison Tate, Makenzie Tate, Preston VanCleve, Hunter VanCleve, Carson VanCleve, Justice Aaron and Piper Morris.
Irene died December 26, 2017 at the age of 96.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29th at 10:30am at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 12:00pm in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home and the burial will be held at Forest Lawn West Funeral Cemetery.
